1. Apply to join the alpha
Apply with your email address on the account page. Once your application is approved, you’ll receive an email with a link to create your password.
2. Install Kajo
Download the Windows installer and follow the instructions.
Currently available for Windows only.
3. Connect your account and get started
Open Kajo and start signing in from the app. Approve the sign-in in your browser, then return to Kajo. Explore the sample project or create your first project.

Operating system: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)
RAM: 8 GB+, or 16 GB+ for large maps | Storage: 200 MB+

Why choose Kajo?
When you forget a minor character’s name or need to check a detail about your world, the answer should be close at hand. In Kajo, you can open reference material alongside your manuscript, compare drafts, and spot expressions you repeat without noticing. Writing, editing, and worldbuilding all come together in one workspace.
How do I join the alpha?
Apply to join the alpha on Kajo’s account page. Once your application is approved, you’ll receive an email with a link to create your password. Then you can sign in to the app and let your creativity run free.
Is Kajo stable and safe to use?
Your manuscripts and projects are saved on your own computer and are never sent elsewhere. I’ve already written well over 100,000 words in Kajo, and it hasn’t crashed since the earliest versions.
Kajo is still in alpha, so bugs may occur. You can enable automatic backups and save an additional Markdown copy that you can read in other programs. Keep a backup of important projects on another drive or in a separate location as well.
Do I need an existing writing project?
No. You can start a new project or explore Kajo’s features with the included sample project first.
Why do I need an account if my writing stays on my computer?
Your account manages your access to Kajo and your activated devices. Your manuscripts and worlds are stored on your own computer, not in your Kajo account.
Can I use Kajo offline?
Yes. Writing and worldbuilding work entirely on your computer. Only account activation, updates, and optional online services, such as downloading stock images, require an internet connection.
How much does Kajo cost?
Kajo is free during alpha testing. Active alpha testers will receive the full app for free as a thank-you.
During the beta phase, Kajo will enter paid Early Access, with a price lower than the full release price. Pricing details will be announced later.
Can I import my existing manuscript into Kajo?
Kajo currently supports importing DOCX files from other apps. Keep the original file and check the formatting after importing. You can also copy text from another app and paste it into Kajo.
Support for additional file formats is planned for the beta phase.
What does being an alpha tester involve?
You get to use Kajo while it’s still in development and help shape its future. Share feedback at your own pace: tell us what works, what feels awkward, and what you’d like to see added. Features and the interface may still change.
Where can I get help or share feedback?
Join the Kajo Discord community. You can ask for help, report bugs, and suggest new features. When reporting a bug, include your Kajo version number and what you were doing when the problem occurred.
You can also send a diagnostic report and feedback directly from Kajo’s settings.
